Tawny Owl Box Drama at Sculthorpe – Nest now Deserted
Monday, 21 April 2025
At 19:31, a Tawny Owl believed to be the female was observed sitting on eggs while a possible male perched outside, calling. A third Tawny Owl suddenly appeared, aggressively attacking the male, who promptly fled. The female then abandoned the eggs, pushing past the intruder and leaving the nest box. By 21:31, none of the owls had returned, and the eggs remained unattended. However, by 23:31, one of the Tawny’s returned and resumed incubation.

At 19:31, another Tawny Owl attempted to enter the box, leading to another confrontation. The presumed female left the box during the altercation. Similar disturbances have occurred nightly throughout the week. The eggs have now been left unincubated. Multiple Tawny’s have been spotted in other boxes on-site. The female originally seen sitting on the eggs is identified as being 11 years old, confirmed by her leg ring.
Sadly we have now taken the decision to stop streaming.
