The Hawk and Owl Trust launches children’s activity trail encouraging families to visit the 200-acre Norfolk nature reserve as part of a year-round programme of guided walks and activities.
This half term, Norfolk families are being encouraged to celebrate National Walking Month by immersing themselves in the world of Wind in the Willows at the Hawk and Owl Trust’s Sculthorpe Moor nature reserve near Fakenham. Kenneth Grahame's famous children's book inspired the trail which challenges younger visitors to find a suitable home for Mole, Ratty and friends.
The half-term trail is part of a year-round programme of daytime and evening walking activities, providing opportunities to spot some of the UK’s native avian species and other diverse wildlife. Walking is one of the easiest ways to improve health, both physical and mental, and is also the best way to spot wildlife in their natural habitats without disturbing them.
Chris Sperring MBE, Conservation Officer at the Hawk and Owl Trust commented: “All year-round people can enjoy guided walks at Sculthorpe Moor with our knowledgeable rangers, who will provide you with interesting facts and lead you to must-see spots that the general public don’t often get to see. Evening walks always offer the chance of a sighting of our resident Tawny and Barn Owls, as well as other exciting wildlife. The Barn Owl is one of our best-loved and most recognisable birds, and these walks provide a great opportunity to come and see one of these magnificent creatures up close and personal. You don’t need to be an expert; everyone can come along to one of our walks and see what the world of conservation and birds has to offer – it’s an activity for the whole family to get involved in.”
