Norwich Cathedral Peregrines Activity Log 07/06/2019

Weather was sunny in the morning and rainy in the afternoon, with a strong breeze throughout the day.

5.10 The chick ringed L7 fledges!

9.57 YS is sitting on the South transect. L7 has yet to be located. GA is below the plucking window on the East side. The male is 3 crockets down on the West side.

10.26 The male flies around the spire and lands 1 crocket to the North East next to GA.

10.29 GA flies off to the East, then circles around the cathedral for a few minutes before landing on the North side.

10.40 The male flies in with prey (a swift) and flies around the spire several times, struggling to land against the wind. YS calls loudly for food up to the male. GA forcibly takes the prey from the male mid-air. The male flies off South in a huff. GA then flies off to the East. Then returns from the West and lands on the South East pinnacle with the prey, looking down at the bell tower. This suggests that L7 could be on the bell tower.

10.51 GA flies off West with the prey item, followed by the male. The male then lands 1 crocket East from the plucking window. GA lands on the golden bales plucking prey.

11.30 GA flies up with swift prey and circles the spire. The male stoops at a pigeon unsuccessfully, then to redeem himself mobs a gull instead. Another gull tries to steal the prey from GA but is intercepted and chased off by the male. GA then lands on the South East pinnacle again with the prey.

11.38 The male chases off an intruder which appeared very high up over the East of the close. He then lands 4 crockets down on the West side.

11.57 GA flies up and circles over the close with prey and then lands on the golden bales.

12.00 YL is on the ledge flapping!

12.09 Both adults are mobbing a gull high over the close. GA brings a headless pigeon into the nest and feeds YL.

12.13 GA flies off with the remaining pigeon and a gull tries again to steal the prey remains but is chased away by a stalwart male. GA lands on the South East pinnacle with the remains and the male lands 2 crockets down on the West. GA then circles the spire before settling 2 crockets down on the West.

12.22 YL fledges! She flies down to the close and then lands on a bush. She checked by staff and looks fine.

12.33 The male mobs another gull then lands 2 crockets below the West side of the plucking window.

13.10 The male leaves the spire, then flies off to the South.

13.16 The male returns to the spire, landing on the West side of the plucking window.

13.32 The male flies very fast from the spire quickly followed by GA to the South West.

13.40 GA returns to the West side of the spire.

14.20 The male returns to the West side of the spire just below the plucking window.

14.30 The male flies off South West.

14.37 The male returns to the North side of the spire with prey being mobbed by a gull, which is chased away by GA. She then picks up cached duck and flies around the close. The male mobs another gull.

15.15 The male mobs a gull again then returns to the North side spire. GA is on the golden bales plucking prey.

15.20 GA flies around with the plucked duck, passes it to the male but it is far too heavy for him to carry, so he throws it back up to her. GA then takes the duck back to the golden bales.

16.00 No change.
