Norwich Cathedral Peregrines Activity Log 31/05/2019

Great day at the watch point, with the adult peregrines feeding their chicks to fuel their flight muscles, ready in a week for fledging!

Weather was bright and sunny.

9.40 Both adults circle spire, GA lands on Golden Bales with prey. Male lands on the North side of spire.

9.57 GA brings a plucked pigeon to the nest and feeds the chicks. Male moves round to 2nd crocket on the East side of the spire.

10.13 Male flies off to the North East.

10.28 Male returns and lands 2 crockets down on the East side. GA is perched on the nest box ledge eating the remains of the pigeon.

10.31 GA flies around the cathedral for a minute before landing on the nest box window arch apex.

10.50 Male chases after a buzzard and disappears. Red kite is seen flying over the cathedral but the peregrines take no action.

11.43 Male returns to the 2nd crocket down on East side.

12.13 Male disappears unobserved.

12.30 Male brings a large half-plucked dove to the nest and feeds the chicks. GA moves to the crocket below the plucking window.

12.37 Male leaves nest, flies around the close, then lands to the East of GA on the spire and caches the remaining food. He then moves to the 2nd crocket down.

12.45 Chicks are wing flapping and hopping around the box.

13.20 Male flies West, GA flies South East.

13.39 GA lands 2 crockets down on the East side.

13.43 Male lands 7 crockets down on the East side. GA calls down to him.

14.15 Both adults stoop at intruding peregrine which flies off to the East. Male goes to the nest and GA lands 1 crocket above the nest box,.

14.19 The male flies around the spire and lands 2 crockets down.

15.12 GA lands on the nest box ledge briefly, then circles the close before landing above the plucking window.

15.41 Male mobs a gull! He then lands 5 crockets down on the East side.

16.00 GA comes in with some more food to the nest.
