Norwich Cathedral Peregrines- Activity Log 13/05/2019

Sunshine! Today the chicks were ringed!                                                                           

8.45 GA on E side of spire 2 crockets above the platform.

9.00 Male flies in from the E and lands 2 crockets down on the W. GA circles the spire and then lands on the platform. She then flies off.

9.10 Male flies off.

9.20 Male returns and lands on the S side of the weather vane under the cockerel on top of the spire a place that we do not usually se him perch.

10.00 Male lands on the box after 11 minutes he then flies off.

10.36 Male lands 2 down on the W. Then he flew off and mobbed a gull.

10.38 Male lands 3 crockets down on W.

10.42 Male flew off, presumed hunting as he goes into a stoop position.

10.43 GA flies in with prey (pigeon) landed 3 above nest on E. Male flew in and landed 2 down on W.

11.03 Male flew SE alarming, chasing 2 Buzzards which he then mobbed to the S. He then lands on weather vane.

11.07 GA flies E with prey. Male follows to defend her from gulls.

11.11 GA lands on top of the spire with prey.

11.20 GA on the N side of the spire.

12.00 GA enters the box without prey.

12.04 GA shades a chick.

12.06 Male flew in and lands 2 down on W. He then moves to 1 crocket below the top window on the E.

12.49 Male flew off.

12.51 Male returns and lands on N side of the spire out of view.

12.54 GA flew off. Chicks unattended. Male hops round into view on the W.

13.35 Male 4th crocket down on E.

13.47 Male flew S.

13.57 GA lands on top of spire with pigeon and starts to pluck.

14.14 Male flies back in and circles the close.

14.18 Both lands 2 down in the middle of the spire. GA flew off with prey.

14.19 GA come into nest box with prey (pigeon) to feed the chicks.

14.21 Male alarming and mobs a buzzard to the SE. GA calls from the box and then continues to feed the chicks. Chicks very vocal.

14.23 Male lands on the spire 2 crockets down on the W.

14.33 GA flies out with the prey remain and flies around the close. Male mobs a Buzzard to the SE.

14.50 GA 7 crockets down on NW. Male flew S.

15.01 GA flew S.

15.03 GA lands 3 down on NW, she then flew to the N side out of sight.

15.15 Male arrives 2 crockets down on SW.

Ringing commences up the spire the chicks are taken inside the spire to be ringed.

15.55 Male and GA do a food pass with a scrap the male has taken from the plucking window.

16.00 GA arrives on box with prey and then flies off immediately and starts alarming. GA flies around with food. She continues alarming. She then dives close to the box.

16.05 GA 9 crockets down and male 10 crockets down. GA keeps flying and calling. 

16.10 GA alternately flying and landing she lands 7 crockets down and the male lands next to her.

16.25 As soon as the spire was vacated GA 7 crockets down and male 4 crockets down on the S side of the spire.
