Norwich Cathedral Peregrines Activity Log 12/05/2019

What a fantastic and busy day both at the watch point and in the Bishop's Garden. All 3 chicks have been very active, exploring the nest box and stretching their wings most of the day. Even the pin feathers are emerging on their wings and tails! Tomorrow at 3pm, the chicks will be ringed, increasing our chances of following their stories after they leave Norwich.

Weather was sunny with a breeze!

9.35 GA is perched on the edge of the box. 1 chick is at the other end of the box from the others. Male is perched 2 crockets down on the West.

9.35 GA moves inside the box.

10.00 Male makes contact with a gull and then flies North East!

10.02 Male returns to the 2nd crocket down.

10.05 The chicks are very active, moving around the box and strething their wings and feet.

10.16 GA hops onto box ledge.

10.38 Male flies off.

11.06 Male returns to 2nd crocket down on South side.

11.09 GA leaves nest, stoops at a gull, then flies over the South West of the close with a buzzard. She then flies off to the East.

11.20 Male leaves the nest and joins GA in chasing off the buzzard to the South East.

11.26 Both adults circle the spire being mobbed by a gull. Male lands on the golden bales and eats cached food. GA lands on the 4th crocket down on the South East side of the spire.

11.45 Both adults fly up, chasing a buzzard and then a food pass occurs. GA lands on the golden bales with the food and the male lands 3 crockets down on the South.

11.53 GA lands on the nest box, stays for a minute and then flies off out of sight.

12.08 Male flies off North West.

12.25 Male returns to the 2nd crocket down.

12.30 GA returns, knocking off his crocket! He flies around the spire while GA perches on his favourite crocket.

12.34 Male lands on the plucking window.

12.49 GA flies off East, male flies off North East.

12.56 Male reclaims his crocket.

13.30 Male flies off North East.

13.43 Male returns, lands on the nest box. GA stoops to South, then disappears.

13.55 Male flies off North East again.

14.49 GA brings a pigeon to the nest and feeds the chicks.

14.55 Male returns and perches on the 2nd crocket down on the South side.

15.00 Male chases 5 gulls off to the North East, then disappears.

15.20 Male returns with prey which he passes to GA mid-air. Both circle to the North East, then the male lands in the box. GA takes the prey to pluck on the golden bales.

15.35 Nest box change over! GA brings prey to the nest and continues to feed chicks and herself. Male flies off to the West.

15.50 GA leaves the nest with the remains of the pigeon.

16.00 The chicks groom themselves.
