Norwich Cathedral Peregrines Activity Log 10/05/2019

Finally some good sunny weather today, broken only by small rainy showers. There was plenty of action in the morning with the male mobbing a gauntlet of gulls! The chicks continue to grow bigger and stronger, both parents are now struggling to cover them up due to their size!

Weather was overcast with rainy showers in the morning and sunny spells in the afternoon.

7.45 Male 3 crockets down on the West side of the spire. GA is covering her chicks.

8.00 Male flies to the North. GA feeds her chicks.

8.15 A large number of gulls circle the spire (9 in total). Male returns with feral pigeon and runs the gull gauntlet! Afterwards there is a food pass as GA leaves the nest box. Male continues to chase gulls away from the spire as GA returns to the top of the spire to pluck.

9.25 GA is still on top of spire. Male is 6 crockets down on the South side. The chicks are left unattended.

9.50 GA returns to nest and feeds chicks. She then covers them afterwards.

10.20 Male hops around to the East side of the spire.

11.26 GA eats grit to aid digestion.

11.28 GA hops on top of the camera and then back into the nest box.

12.55 GA jumps up onto the ledge of the nest box and calls up to the male, who doesn't respond. She then flies up and lands 6 crockets down from the plucking window. Male flies onto the nest and feeds the chicks. GA is very vocal towards the male.

13.00 Both peregrines fly off to the South, leaving the chicks unattended.

13.12 The male returns and lands 2 crockets down from the plucking window. GA also returns and lands on the East side of the spire 2 crockets down.

13.24 Male flies up to the 2nd crocket down from the top of the spire and then flies off South East.

13.57 The male returns and flies around to the North side plucking window, then flies to the nest box to feed the chicks.

14.04 GA returns and lands on the North side plucking wndow with prey in her talons.

14.32 Incubation change over! Male flies around to the North side while GA feeds her chicks with plucked pigeon.

15.00 Male returns to the West side of the spire.

15.02 Male hops on top of the South facing plucking window.

15.17 Male flies onto nest and takes leftover food to the North side of the spire.

15.36 Male flies very high up to the West and then suddenly stoops.

15.39 Male returns with nothing and lands 2 crockets down from the plucking window.

15.47 GA flies in and out of the nest box twice before heading off South with the male.
