Norwich Cathedral Peregrines Activity Log 05/05/2019

Today was better weather-wise with plenty of action and drama from the peregrines!

Weather was sunny spells with a gentle breeze.

9.30 Both adults chase and mob a buzzard. GA returns to the nest being very vocal. The male lands 2 crockets down on the South.

9.44 Male lands on the North West bell tower. GA and the male take off, and the male passes food to GA in mid-air. Both circle the spire, then the male sits on the box ledge while GA lands on the golden bales.

9.52 The male covers the chicks.

9.55 GA brings food from the cache to the nest and feeds the chicks. The male leaves and lands 2 crockets down on the South spire.

11.05 Both adults chases off a buzzard to the West. The male lands 2 crockets down on the South but GA disappears.

11.10 The male returns to the box and feeds the chicks.

11.15 GA returns, flies around the spire but disappears again.

11.43 Both adults chase away a juvenile female. GA returns to the nest while the male patrols the close.

12.06 The male returns, dives at a gull and then lands next to the nest box. The male then circles the spire and then dives at another gull, before landing on the 3rd crocket down.

12.30 GA eats grit from the nest box.

12.55 GA calls to the male from the ledge but he does not respond, so she flies up to him and pushes him off the crocket demanding a incubation change over! GA flies off to the South.

13.04 The male flies off to the West. The chicks are left exposed and a buzzard flies in from the East. Both adults chase the buzzard and make contact!

13.09 The male lands on the nest and incubates the chicks.

13.33 GA returns and lands on the 4th crocket down from the plucking window.

13.40 GA flies East.

13.43 GA lands on the box, the male lands on the plucking window on the North side.

13.48 The male brings food to GA.

14.00 The male lands 2 crockets down on the South side.

15.15 The male returns, lands on the North East plucking window and takes food from the cache there to GA on the nest. GA feeds the chicks.

15.17 The male is on the move a lot, keeping an eye on a buzzard which is spotted to the South. The male then lands on the 2nd crocket down to the South.

15.40 The male chases off an intruding female peregrine. GA flies off to the East. The male returns and sits 1 crocket below the plucking window. GA returns to the nest with food but broods the chicks rather than feeding them.
