Norwich Cathedral Peregrines Activity Log 21/05/2019

An interesting and quiet day at the watch point. The chicks have grown considerably and are stretching their wings!

Weather was blue skies and bright sunshine.

9.30 The chicks are unattended in the nest box, with no adult peregrine in sight.

9.45 GA is seen flying to the East.

9.48 Male returns and lands on the overhead camera.

9.52 Male flies off to the West.

10.50 Male returns, goes around to the North of the spire for cached food and takes a pair of wings to the nest box to feed the chicks.

11.00 Male leaves the nest box, taking the remains of the wings with him and lands 2 crockets down from the nest platform. He then flies up to the Golden Bales, leaves the spire and soars upwards using the thermals, eventually joining GA who has reappeared. Both peregrines fly off to the North.

11.35 GA returns to the 2nd crocket down on the East side. She then hops to the middle crocket.

11.39 GA flies off to the South East.

11.44 Male returns with prey and lands 2 crockets down from the plucking window and plucks it. He then lands in the nest box to feed the chicks but drops the food, resulting in a free-for-all from the chicks! A confused male tries to restore order and control but fails, and he leaves the nest. The largest of the chicks actually starts eating the remaining scrap of food!

11.50 Male lands on the golden bales.

11.53 Male flies off and lands 5 crockets down on the East side of the spire.

12.32 Male flies off to the North.

12.35 GA returns and lands 3 crockets down from the top.

12.49 Male returns and lands on the golden bales, while GA flies to the West.

12.52 Male flies West and then lands 4 crockets up from the nest box.

13.05 Male chases a gull to the West, circles around the spire and then heads West.

13.53 GA returns and lands 2 crockets down from the top.

13.55 GA flies up and movs a buzzard to the South East high up.

13.58 Both GA and the male return to find a peregrine intruder! They quickly chase it off to the West.

14.00 GA returns and lands 2 crockets down from the top.

14.25 GA flies off and disappears.

14.39 GA is seen flying high up to the South.

14.40 The male returns and lands on the golden bales.

14.51 Male flies off to the North West.

15.00 No change.

15.30 No change.
