Shapwick Reserve Welcomes return of Volunteers!

Simon Beard updates us on recent volunteer activity at Shapwick Moor Nature Reserve...

After almost two years of large group 'volunteer silence' due to Covid, it was lovely to see a good turnout at the end of September for the first essential task of the Winter job list!

Volunteers 'attacked' the fence, gates and railings of the Shapwick reserve car park. Removing vegetation and then giving all the wood a fresh coat of preservatives. The weather was sunny and warm and the finished result has smartened up this public area greatly.

Many thanks to all those who joined us at Shapwick for a very enjoyable day.

A recent Wednesday saw the return of Shapwick's first school conservation work group for many months.  A minibus full of pupils arrived and quickly got down to work.

The past two years have seen many of our boundary fences becoming overgrown with brambles and willow saplings.  The 15 pupils made light work of removing these. It was lovely to hear the pupils' voices once again ay Shapwick.
